Basketball Wall Street: Standout Freshman Julz Kost, Playing Well at Williston Northampton School-(MA)

Julz Kost is just a freshman at Williston Northhampton School in Easthampton, Ma. but her impact on the girl’s varsity basketball team has been significant. The 5-foot-8 guard is an accurate perimeter shooter who has improved her ball handling and passing abilities. The versatile combo guard is the consummate team player with good court sense and a high basketball IQ. “She is a very good player, moves the ball well and has excellent court vision” said Amber Rodgers, the head coach of the Williston Northhampton girl’s basketball team. The LaGrangeville, New York native has been an integral part of her teams 5-1 record in the competitive New England Private School Athletic Conference, better know as the NEPSAC. She has performed well in wins against the King’swood Oxford School, Ct., St Mark’s School, Ma., Brooks School, Ma., Hopkins School Ct., and the Buckingham Browne&Nichols School, Ma.  Kost’s, Athletic bloodlines and competitive nature comes from her father, Steve Kost, who was a division one baseball player and a former Major League Baseball prospect. And, from her cousin Bobby Sura, who was a star basketball player at Florida State University and was a first round pick in the N.B.A draft.

While it is still early in her development as a prospect, Kost has performed well enough to have received an official offer from Towson University, coached by women’s basketball legend Diane Richardson. “I definitely see her competing at a mid-major or high-level Division 1 (school).  “It’s tough to determine what exactly they’ll be when they’re so young, but she definitely has the talent to get there. Looking at how early the recruiting process starts, and already having Towson extend an offer even before she starts high school, that speaks to the potential everyone thinks she has.” Said coach Rodgers, who is a St Lawrence University alumnae, and is in her second season as the varsity girl’s basketball head coach at Williston.

Several high academic, division one women’s basketball collegiate programs have been recruiting Kost because she puts forth a strong emphasis on academic achievement. Challenging herself in the classroom taking on a rigorous academic slate including courses like: physics, world civilization, algebra, English and Spanish. Julz Kost is off to an impressive start, and is on the brink of a special freshman season, look for her and the Williston Northampton School girl’s basketball team to have a great and memorable 2017-18 season in the NEPSAC and beyond.
